Newsletter Jan/Feb 2010

We will be offering

The Civil War Tribute Quilt block of the month starting Jan. 16th. Kits w/pattern are $24.00 each month. We will have a Civil War speaker on that Saturday @ 10:30am. I will demo the block at apx. 11:15. Anyone who would like to stay and sew their block is welcome to do so in our classroom. Registration has already begun. Every one is welcome to stop in for the speaker each month. You do not have to be getting the block kits.

We will also offer Thimbleberries Village Green as a block of the month, kits w/pattern are $18.75 each month. If you would like to partisapate in the meetings, Erik will walk you through the block, on the 3rd Thursday each month, 12 – 2 or 6 – 8, you are more than welcome.

OH – Mi Shop Hop

Now that the holidays are over it’s time to start thinking about spring. Forget that ground hog, you know springs is almost here when its shop hop time. Feb. 25, 26 & 27 from 9 am – 7 pm. I know you will all be ready for a road trip and what better sites to see than 9 quilt shops. The partisapating shops are – Sew What, The Matiral Girl, Pieceful Traditions, The Viking Sewing Center, The Quilt Patch, Corner Quilts, Threads of Tradition, Sonflower Quilts & The Quilt Foundry. Each partisapating shop you visit, will have sales just for hoppers, a free pattern, an in store raffle and 1 part of a progressive exclusive pattern. If you visit all 9 shops in the 3 aloted days you will be eleigble for the grand and secondary prizes.

Passports are only $5.00 and the 1st 400 partisapants receive a free souvinour mug.

Shop Hop Bus

We are hosting a bus trip to visit all 9 shops in one day. The cost is $55.00 and includes your passport w/ souvinour mug, a bag lunch, snacks & bus trip. The bus leaves from Sew What, Sat. the 27th, at 7:30 am and will return apx. 7:00 pm. We do have a limit of 35 so please registrer soon.

Quilt Camp -Every month we hold a quilt camp - most of these are 3 days long. You can work on any project you would like. Or we will have a mystery for you.

Here’s how it works—Bring in everything you need, set up your station, sew to your hearts content, have a little lunch, talk to a few friends, have a snack , sew some more. Repeat the next two days. You don’t have to answer the phone, do the laundry, let the dog out or anything else you don’t want to do. I will provide lunch & snacks. The cost is only $25.00 for 3 days or $10.00 a day. Jan. 18, 19 & 20, Feb.1, 2 & 3 and/or Mar. 22, 23 & 24, from 10 am – 4 pm. We will have kits for all mysteries or use your stash.

Super Bowl Sunday we will have an all day, 11 – 6pm sew-a-thon to make baby quilts for chairity. If you are interested please sign up by Feb. 4th.

Sit-n-Stitch Open sewing for anyone who would like to get out

and sew with others. Bring any sewing project you would like, hand or machine. If I'm not busy with other customers and you need help with something I am happy to help. You may use our mats, rulers and irons so that you don't have to bring a lot of stuff. There is no

charge and we never know how many people will show up. Mon. – Fri. 10:30 - 4 and Sat. 11 - 4. Please call ahead if we have a class scheduled. You may still come in to sew I just need to know which set of tables are needed for which group.

We have decided to gear a few of the sit-n-stitches to specific topics/techniques as follows:

Paper Piecing *- The 1st Tues.

12 – 2 pm or 6 – 8pm. Bring in your own project or I will supply a starter for anyone who would like a lesson.

Fusible Applique/Art to Heart*– the 2nd Thurs. 12 – 2pm. Usually we work on projects from the books. I usually have kits form the newest books. You can work on anything you would like.

Needleturn Applique *– The 2nd Sat. 1 – 3pm. Beginning on the book, Hop to It. Or bring your own project.

All Dolled up – The 3rd Sat. 1 – 3:30pm, This group will be working on doll dresses for Goodfellow Dolls.

Stash Anonymous – The 2nd & last Tues. 11 – 4pm. Receive 2 – 3 free pattern handouts to help you use up your stash. The 2nd Tues. will use 2 ½" strips the last tues. will use scraps or 5" squares.

Wall hanging/Banners *– The last Mon. 12 – 2 pm or 6 – 8 pm. We will be working from the Patrick Lose book, Poster Quilts to start. Kits are available.

Button Ups *– The last Sat. 1 – 3 pm. Small quilts that button onto a base or pillow. Kits are available.

*If you need a lesson for any of the above it is $15.00 per session and you must register.

Beginning Quilting

Learn rotary cutting and basic piecing while making a small/throw 6 block sampler. Time permitting you will also learn machine quilting.

Choice of 3 sessions – Wed. Jan. 13, 20, 27, Feb. 3, 10 & 17, 12 – 2 pm or 6 – 8 pm or Sat. Jan. 23, Feb. 6 & 13, 12 – 3 pm. $60.00, plus supplies.

Purse Classes

Bellino Bag – Gina

This bag doubles as a backpack or a sling. Mon. Jan. 11, 12 – 4pm, $25.00 plus supplies.

Sunday Bag Lovers -Gina will show you how to make a different bag each month. Usually on the last Sunday of each month. Jan. bag – Long Handled Tulip bag Sunday – Jan. 31, 12 – 4pm. $15.00 plus supplies.

Messenger Bag – Gina

For the classroom, boardroom or wherever life takes you. Interior holds 14inx12inx3in, enough for a 14in laptop and notebooks. Designed with both girls and guys in mind. Fri. Jan. 22, 12 – 4pm. $25.00 plus supplies.

Small/Full Size Quilts Classes

Scrappy Bargello – Pat

Clean out your closet and learn a new technique with a free pattern. This is a small quilt so it will not take long to finish.

Mon. Feb. 8, 6 – 8 pm. $15.00 plus supplies.

Misc. Classes

Hand Applique by Machine –Pat

Would you like to get the look of needle turn applique while using your sewing machine? This is the group for you. We are picking a project from the new book More Hand Applique by Machine, we will be working on it for 3 – 4 months. Each session Pat will show you everything you need to know to get the beautiful results you want.

The 1st Thurs. 5:30 – 7:30pm. $5.00 each session with kit purchase or $10.00 without kit.

Scrappy Friday – The 3rd Friday in March during open sewing.

Diane will show you what to do with 5" squares.

Free

Pizza Fabric - Cathy

Make 1 yard of your own one of a kind embellished fabric. Start with a base, your dough, add toppings of your choice. Use your fabric for a project, maybe a purse or use it for accents on many projects.

Thurs. Feb. 11, 6 – 8pm. $15.00 plus supplies.

Electric Quilt – Pat M.

Get a one on one, 1 hour lesson to learn how to use this great computer program. Schedule your own session. $15.00/hour

Clothesline Club

This club started in April, there are 12 small monthly projects and a few bonus projects, it started out using only 30's reproduction fabrics, but we are now offering kits in additional colorways. You may do as many or as few of the projects as you would like, kits are available.

Usually the last Thur. every month 12 – 2pm or 5:30 – 7:30pm.
